Week 2

Landscapes

The above image overlooks a meadow, large hills and rocky mountains. The entire scenery is covered with short green grass with no trees or signs of humanity. The lighting shows that clouds are blocking part of the sun where only a portion of the image has natural lighting.

The above image shows the underwater world abundant of fauna and covered in coral. the lighting in the image makes it hard to see in a distance making you short sighting but also creating a sense of exploration.

The desert is a harsh environment with little to vegetation because of the deficiency of moisture. The wind blowing the sand in different directions creates a hypnotizing pattern.

I will be using this image as the basis of my work.
This image shows huge mountains and trees covered in layers of snow. The natural lighting is able to show what scale the size of the mountain is having one side darker than the area that has lighting.

Country of Origin Cambodia
Cambodias landscape is abundant of jungles and ancient stone temples most notable the angkor wat.
The terrain is shows a natural jungle next to ruins of once a temple.

The Island
Custom island based on N6

Week 1

Week 1 Task

Getting Started and Folder Structure
  1. Each folder has a specific purpose to make crysis work, a folder could be used a storage for files to be loaded.
  2. Bin32 and Bin64 are the main core folders which consist of the game files and exe files eg editor.exe
  3. The game folder consist of .pak files which contain files from the crysis game for example sound files, textures, levels, objects etc.
  4. The engine folder contains files for the crysis engine itself from animation, dynamics, shaders.
  5. The .pak files in the game folder are compressed into a .rar file to decrease the size of game folder
Overview Of The CryENGINE 3 Sandbox User Interface

  1. right clicking on the grey bar under the tools will bring up different view ports that be used.
  2. f3 is a shortcut to show the view port wireframe.
  3. isolating objects can be done by searching in the entities name in the search bar on the grey tool bar.
  4. Ai physics is a very useful tool, when turned on objects will have animation while still being in editor mode for example the boat in the video began to move in the water as if physics has been applied.
  5. reloading is a more efficient way to load in stuff that may not work or you have edited a entity/texture rather than closing and reopening the editor.
  6. the follow terrain tool is allows entities to snap to the terrain and objects rather than manually moving it using the move tool than can make the entity go through the terrain.
  7. The rollupbar tool bar contains tabs and options where most objects and entities are accessed. if closed it can accessed under the views.
  8. Ruler tool will show the distance of two objects selected.
  9. select objects tool will show all the objects used in your map.
  10. clicking on objects and pressing h will hide the objects from view, ctrl+h will unhide all hidden objects.

Independant Study

Customizing the editor
  1. Merging windows to make it more organised, and will keep the screen less busy.
  2. closings unused windows and leaving only commonly used ones open.
  3. turning off 'enable source control' is recommended to be turned off. it can be turned off in tools > preferences > general settings
  4. configure user commands will allow me to macro important tools that i may find useful. it can be accessed through tools tab.
  5. 'show shortcut keys in screen tips' will be turned on until i become familiar with crysis editor. it can be turned on in customized keyboard window > options tab.
View ports
  1. you are able to navigate the world by pressing Ctrl +g, this feature will allow you to test your world for example if the terrain is to high to walk up on.
  2. free roaming in editor mode pressing the traditional WASD and moving directions with mouse is the simplest form of navigating the world.
  3. when entering your test world pressing F3 will allow your character to fly while having ai physics on.

User Interface Panels – Overview
  1. f3 is a shortcut which turns on wire frame, wire frame removes all textures and surfaces from objects and leaving only the lines to view.
  2. while selecting a object pressing h will hide it from view, you can do this to multiple objects.
  3. pressing ctrl+h will unhide all hidden objects.
  4. ctrl+g will make you enter the world that you are editing, when entered in the world ai physics will be activated. also pressing f3 will allow your character to fly in the world.
  5. ctrl+p will turn on ai physics while still being in editor mode rather than entering the world itself.
