Week 5

Strategy Statement 
I took the approach of what would happen to the Barcelona Pavilion if it was to be abandoned in a isolated frozen island. My process was to make the building decay through cold strong winds, constant snow and being submerged in high tides for 100 years. I modeled the building with 3ds and used grunge and dirty textures to start off the model, i also successfully used the plugin rayfire to make 3 walls destructible by isolating them in 3 separate files. I used firepower as a means to destroy the objects in crysis also using ingame decays on model.

Materials
I selected the 3 most common materials used to construct a building. Each material are completely different and have their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to properties.

Reinforced Concrete


Concrete is created by mixing aggregate, cement and water together, when mixed it is able to be shaped and when solidified it becomes almost rock-hard. Curing is very important to the production of concrete because the cement tends to dry out fast and shrink thus not achieve its maximum strength and hardness. Concrete can be reinforced with steel rebars to achieve more more strength typically used in large constructions it also increases how long the concrete will last.  


Steel

 Steel is the largest mass produced material for large and commercial buildings, it is structurally powerful and can withstand most weather and man-made elements, it is also used to reinforce other material. Steel is made when combining iron and carbon and has a life expectancy of 25+ years depending on the environment.

Timber

Timber is the most used material when it comes to residential construction typically 1 story houses, it has the biggest environmentally impact out of all materials because of large sections of forest being cut down for the timber. The strength of the timber is determined by what tree it was cut from, trees have different strengths based on the grain, knots and shakes. Timber has a large variety of weakness's because there are many factors that can destroy/decay timber, some include fungus, termites, fire, moisture.

I managed to model the entire building but i have not adding textures yet, i will be continue to find and add textures depending on what materials the building uses.





Week1

house at bordeaux
i have previously done work for the house at bordaeux and have modeled it into sketchup, designed byrem koolhaas kolha for a client who was recently disabled.

 rudin house
The concept design of the rudin house is simplistic and has the features of how people when young would visualize what a house would look like that being the 1 ridge roof, windows, 1 door and a chimney.
  
barcelona pavillion
I decided to do my assignment on the barcelona pavillion because to me it seems the most structurally intresting with alot of potential for editing.

Exporting from 3ds into Crysis

I managed to export the 3ds model into crysis but not all the materials showed up on the model even tho the textures are loaded in the material editor. the faces that have texture are physical and the missing textures are not.


I have talked to Stephan and solved this issue, the problem was that the polygons ID's were not set with the texture.

Week 5

The Subliminal
My strategy to conceal my letter and number was to keep it natural and blend it in with the scenery. i achieved this by using the tools available in the crysis editor such as the modify terrain tool, natural objects (trees, rocks etc) and the layer painter. Each number and letter can be only seen if the view distance and lighting is met other than that it is completely hidden to the player.

Natural lighting able make N6 stand out. - using the modify terrain tool i easily engraved N6 into a cliff side.

No lighting making it blend in.

Outlined with Trees - i used the vegetation tool to achieve this, once i covered the land with the pine tree and removed some of the trees for the N6, due to the size of my island once a player is in the game it will just look like a forest which the number and letter can only be seen in flight mode.

Walking path - i used the layer painter and painted a path with dark and light shades of the texture, the darker shade of texture i used to show N6.
